A section of residents from Kidodo Cell in the Railway Ward of the Central Division in Kasese Municipality today morning stormed the office of the Kasese Resident District Commissioner protesting against the police’s decision to release a suspect who is accused of allegedly kidnapping a one and half year-old baby boy from the area.
Morian Mbambu who was arrested on April 04 on allegations of kidnapping the toddler belonging to Godfrey Bwambale and Jelia Muhindo is said to have been released on April 07, 2025 without the knowledge of the complainants most of whom being residents of Kidodo cell.
Her release from the police cells at Kasese Central Police Station did not go well with the residents and leaders who today decided to hold a peaceful demonstration against police’s act. They were seen moving from Kidodo to the RDC’s office with placards written on, “Police Stop Corruption, IGP Help Us and We Want the Suspect Rearrested.”
The residents faulted the police’s decision to release the suspect before the missing child has been recovered, describing the act as unlawful.
According to them, by the time of disappearance, the suspect Morian Mbambu was the one taking care of the missing child.
The Rwenzori East Regional Community Liaisons Officer, SP Luke Mbusa told Messiah Radio that they were too concerned about the disappearance of the child, adding that investigations into the matter had been launched.
He subsequently revealed that they had tasked the Divisional Authorities to explain to the Regional CID the circumstances surrounding the release of the suspect before the child recovered.
The Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County, Mr. Zepher Mubingwa and the Kasese Municipality Mayor, Mr. Chance Kahindo who accompanied the angry residents back to their home area, applauded them for using peaceful means to seek justice.
The concerned leaders assured the residents of their total support towards seeking justice to the victim’s family and ensuring that the suspect who is reported to be on the run after being bonded by police is rearrested and charged accordingly.
