As the political season picks momentum, the electorate in Kasese Municipality is still divided on who to praise for the introduction and effectiveness of the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program.
Currently, most streets in Kasese Municipality look so beautiful because of the newly constructed roads where shillings 53 billion from the World Bank have been spent to have the infrastructure on ground under the USMD program.
Hon. Robert Centenary, the former Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament acknowledges that it was his voice and lobbying capacity to have the programme extended to the urban centre when he was still the area legislator.
He also explains that during his time the funds would however bounce back to the Central Bank without being used due to lack of a contractor to implement what had been planned, adding that the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Ferigo Kambale is lucky that the contractor came on board after he had assumed the position.
On his part, Hon. Ferigo Kambale accuses his predecessor for allegedly not expediting the procurement process and having the money do its intended purpose.
Hon. Kambale stresses that despite Hon. Centenary kick-starting the procurement process, praise should go to him as the incumbent legislator for expediting the entire process and ensuring that the funds are effectively utilized to a level that Kasese Municipality was ranked the best in implementing the USMID program.
Mr. Francis Mugisa Kithulha, one of the Kasese Municipality parliamentary hopefuls commends the two leaders for their efforts and all what they have managed to put on ground during their terms of leadership.
He, however, discloses that Kasese Municipality being a new and fast growing urban centre requires demand driven aspects in the sectors of sports, tourism and essential needs among others.
