Village Chairpersons and members of the Village Health Teams (VHTs) from Kisinga Sub-county in Kasese district have been urged to embrace the Sanitation Week.
The Sanitation Week is an annual event aimed at increasing community awarenessand participation in realizing the importance of improved sanitation and hygiene. The campaign focuses on increasing awareness and advocacy for sanitation in institutions, public places and homes through home improvement campaign.
This year’s National Celebrations will be held between 14th- 21st in Sembabule district under the theme, “Sanitation for dignity and inclusiveness.”
In Kasese district, the celebrations will be held on April 11 in the five villages of Kajwenge Parish in Kisinga Sub-county., Bukonzo County East.
Addressing the Village Chairpersons and VHTs at the Sub-county headquarters, Mr. Stephen Bagonza, the Kasese Assistant District Health Officer in-charge of Environmental Health said they selected Kisinga after realizing that it was among the lower local governments whose sanitation coverage is below average.
According to him, 20% of the households in the sub-county have standard latrines while 80% of them do not have recommended ones.
He implored them to continue sensitizing the residents in their respective villages about the need to prevent the spread of Mpox
Mr. Lawrence Bwambale, the Principal Health Inspector in-charge of Bukonzo East Health Sub-district encouraged the local council authorities to work closely with him in curtailing the spread of diseases that negatively affect the economy of the district.
Mr. Julius Mukeri, the Kisinga Sub-county Chairperson pledged total cooperation to the efforts aimed at improving the latrine coverage in the lower local government.
