Minister Kabbyanga calls for a special program aimed at supporting boda-boda riders

The minister of state for National Guidance Mr Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga has highlighted the critical need to design a special program aimed at supporting bodaboda riders in the country.

Speaking during his thanks-giving ceremony at Kaguta Grounds in Nyakatonzi sub-county on Saturday, Mr Kabbyanga noted that so many bodaboda riders are suffering at the hands of many motorcycle selling companies which are operating in a manner typical of money lenders.

According to Mr Kabbyanga, when riders get motorcycles from these companies, they end up paying double the real cost of the motorcycle after just about two years while those who default on their installments see their motorcycles withdrawn from them without any form of compensation.

The junior ICT minister noted that the current development programs including Emyooga and Parish Development Model-PDM cannot adequately address the needs of motorists since they need a bigger seed capital.

He explained the need for a specific program designed to respond to the challenges of the bodaboda industry before courting the president to allow him develop that concept which government should eventually embrace and finance.
