Kasese District Health Authorities have revealed that 15 percent of the children across the district are unvaccinated against some deadly diseases.
Dr. Amon Bwambale, the District Health Officer made the revelation on Thursday morning during the official launch of the Big Catch-up Vaccination Exercise at Kasese Municipal Health Centre III in Kasese town. The exercise aims at vaccinating all children aged 0 – 49 months.
The District Health Boss, who underscored the need for immunization in saving lives, stressed that out of the 400,000 children in the district, a total of 60,000 remain unvaccinated, hence posing a major threat to their health and wellbeing. According to him, unvaccinated children become vulnerable to a number of diseases including measles, polio and malaria among others.
Lt. Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner emphasized the need for entire population to support the vaccination campaign, highlighting government’s commitment to ensuring good health for all the citizens.
Ms Aidah Kahindo, the National Supervisor from the Ministry of Health who is overseeing the campaign in the district, explained that Kasese was selected for the initiative following the prevalence of a few deaths caused by lack of vaccination, appealing to the family heads to actively participate in the exercise for the protection of their children.
