Five prisoners sit for PLE in Kasese

At least five inmates are among the Primary Seven candidates in Kasese district who have successfully done their Mathematics and English papers today at Mubuku Primary School.

They include Aaron Munezero from Kisoro District who is serving a 10-year sentence after being found guilty of defilement, Nelson Mbale from Kasika Village in Rukoki sub –county who is serving a 16 – month sentence over land trespass and William Mukengeya from Kilembe Sub County who is serving a six – year sentence over robbery.

Others are Michael Okello from Karamoja who is serving an eleven – year sentence over an illegal possession of a firearm and Ramon Abemigisha from Rukiga district, serving an eighteen – year sentence over murder. The five candidates are serving their respective prison sentences at Mubuku Government Prison in Mubuku Town Council.

Speaking to the press shortly after the first paper, the inmates told our reporter that they were happy with the Government of Uganda for giving them an opportunity to continue with their education while in prison.

Mr. Godfrey Kandaba, the Head Teacher at Kahendero Primary School in Muhokya Town Council, stressed that four candidates out 16 didn’t turn up for the examinations.

He alleged that they could have missed due to their involvement in the fishing activities on Lake George.

Kasese District Education Officer, Mr. Ernest Thabugha says today’s examinations started peacefully without any interruptions.
