UPDF soldier put out of action by colleagues in Kasese

Maj. Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer for the UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa has confirmed that Private Isaac Lukwang of the 5 Mountain Battalion based in Rusese, Kasese district has been put out of action by UPDF squad dispatched to disarm him.

The incident comes after the victim on Sunday evening entered into a colleague’s house and picked a gun, started shooting randomly and in the process injured a fellow soldier RA/ 251412 Private Joel Alebu.

According to Maj. Katamba, the soldier disappeared and the hunt for him began.

Yesterday at around 4:00am, he appeared at a UPDF Boarder detach at Kamukumbi where he shot, killed and grabbed a sentry’s gun by the names of RA/ 251171 Private Solomon Kule.

The hunt for the rampaging soldier was intensified and last evening, he was put out of action by a UPDF squad dispatched to disarm him when he shot back at them.

Katamba says the two guns were recovered from the said soldier and are in safe hands.

The Mountain Divisional UPDF Mouthpiece adds that they commiserate with the family of the soldier who was killed while on official duty and wish the injured a quick recovery, stressing that they will also institute a Board of Inquiry to inquest into the incident.
