Mpox disease no longer a threat to hinder Kasese district from hosting the National Celebrations to mark the World Tourism Day

The Kasese District Health Officer has revealed that Monkey Pox (Mpox) is no longer a threat to hinder the World Tourism Day to be celebrated in Kasese.

Kasese District will on Friday this week host the National function to mark the World Tourism day celebrations under the theme, “Tourism and Peace.”

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to officiate at the function that will take place at Nyakasanga Playground in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.

Dr. Amon Bwambale, the District Health Officer says despite the Ministry of Health’s declaration of Mpox disease in Kasese, the district health department has managed to contain its spread through strict surveillance and carrying out serious sensitization campaigns in the communities.

Dr. Bwambale, who was last evening speaking to the media at the Mayor’s Gardens in Kasese town, revealed that out of 22 cases of Mpox in the whole country, Kasese district has registered only four. 

Dr. Bwambale noted that much as monkey pox disease is a contagious disease, they are working hard to ensure that it combated in the district.

He, however, reported that anthrax disease recently claimed the life of only person in Bukonzo County West.

On his part, the Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Elias Byamungu observed need for the people to embrace the activities that have been earmarked to make the celebrations enjoyable.

According to him, the celebrations would help to showcase the tourism potentials in the district so that more people are attracted to staying and investing in the related fields.

Ms Joviah Mbambu, the Kasese District Tourism Officer, told the press that they have organized people in their respective ethnicities to showcase their cultures as a sign of unity among the residents.

Sharon Kabugho, the District Communications Officer highlighted that the people should prepare to exhibit various products to the multitudes of the people who are able to appreciate their innovations.

 The Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphazi Muhindi Bukombi urged the residents to prepare themselves for the event through engaging in different businesses activities that would help them earn money from the national and international attendees of the function.
