The Kasese Grade I Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced an 18-year-old man to six years in Mubuku Government Prison on three counts of burglary, theft and assault.
Presided over by the Kasese Senior Grade I Magistrate, His Worship Isha Alinda, court heard that on December 19, 2025 while in Nyangonge village, Katooke Parish in Bugoye Sub-county, Milton Kule broke into Rabson Muhindo’s house with an intent to commit a felony.
On the same date, the accused stole 50 kilograms of cassava flour valued at Uganda Shillings 40,000.
The third count of assault involved Kule beating Shakilla Musoki, his sister -in- law and inflicted her with a bodily harm and all the crimes were committed on the same fateful day.
The accused person was immediately arrested and charged with the three counts. When he was arraigned in the courts of law, Kule accepted one charge and denied two others.
He was further remanded and had spent close to three months in Mubuku Government Prison.
When he reappeared in court on Wednesday, Kule pleaded guilty to other crimes that had been earlier slapped against him and was instantly convicted on his own plea of guilt.
He requested court to pardon and acquit him of the charges, lamenting that he was a total orphan and had no relatives.
Kule was, however, slapped with a 2-year sentence on the first count of burglary, 3 years on the second count of theft and 1 year on the third count of assault which he would serve consecutively in Mubuku Government Prison.
The presiding Magistrate explained that the rationale of the sentence was due to the fact that the crimes of theft and burglary had become rampant in his area of jurisdiction, adding that such a sentence was meant to send a message to the other would -be offenders.
He added that the accused person received such a longer sentence because his actions showed that he had not bothered to reform but was rather litigating for his acquittal and freedom. ENDS
