0.9% of the women in Kasese face Female Genital Mutilation

At least 0.9% of the women in Kasese district are facing a challenge of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Female Genital Mutilation refers to the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia (organ) for non-medical reasons.

However, the practice is discouraged because it violates human rights, causes physical harm and affects mental health.

The Kasese Senior Probation and Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Faisal BagumiraKirarira revealed the challenge on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting that was aimed at collectively forging ways of how to fight street children from district.

Bagumira noted that the vice of Female Genital Mutilation had been registered in Rugendabara – Kikongo Town Council, Busongora County North, calling upon the Office of the DISO to take keen interest in investigating the matter.

He warned the parents to prevent their children from accessing gadgets that would expose them to pornographic literature.
