Over 50 young mothers in Busongora County North and Kasese Municipality have graduated in vocational skills with a call on them to become job creators but not seekers.
The graduates have been undergoing a six-month training in vocational skills with support from Stress Reduction and Counselling Centre (SRCC) in conjunction with Amaha for Girls, both Community Based Organizations in Kasese district.
The graduates graduated yesterday in hair dressing, building and concrete practice, tailoring and basket weaving.
In his remarks at the function that was held at All Saints Kyanya II Church of Uganda Parish in Ibanda Archdeaconry, Rev. Can. Josephat Bwalhuma, the Executive Director at Stress Reduction and Counselling Centre urged the beneficiaries to always become creative through using the already acquired skills to create jobs.
Mrs. Juliet Masika Akangwasa who represented Amaha for Girls, reported that through the project, over 300 youth had benefited.
According to her, they started training the first batch of the beneficiaries in 2017.
She used the same platform to warn the youth against the practice of engaging themselves in activities that might lead them into early marriages, teenage and unwanted pregnancies which she said were not healthy to their bodies.
Ms Monica Mbabazi, the Community Development Officer for Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council who hailed the two organizations for their support rendered to the young mothers, said they had supplemented government efforts aimed at skilling the youth. She challenged the beneficiaries to become change agents.
Speaking in a jovial mood, some of the beneficiaries told our reporter that through the project, they had regained hope of living better lives since they had been given start-up kits including tailoring machines, hand dryers and tool boxes containing building and construction materials among others.
