Young boys embrace local tourism activities in Kasese

A section of young boys from Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council, Busongora County North in Kasese District have welcomed the call for promoting local tourism activities for socio-economic transformation across the district.

The boys including Geoffrey Kamalha, Joab Mumbere, Christian Kambale and Lordrick Mumbere aged between 9, 12, and 13 respectively are showcasing their potentials to boost the economy through art and craft making at the ongoing activities to mark the 2025 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon in Kasese town.

They are among the many entrepreneurs who have local items to exhibit ahead of the marathon slated for Saturday 23.

Speaking to Messiah Radio during an exclusive interview, Christian Kambale, aged 12, a primary four pupil at Pride Rwenzori Nursery and Primary School in Maliba Town Council, said they had come to showcase their tourism potentials with a number of items including locally made cars, human sculptures made out of wood and plastic bottles.

Kambale noted that being their first time to come to the marathon, they had brought cars costing shillings 25,000 for sale tourists as a means of sourcing money to pay their school fees.

Joab Mbusa, another 12 – year -old young entrepreneur, who studies at one of the primary schools in Nyakalengijjo, revealed that they also deal in local hydro power generation at the river streams in their community.

He said that tourists who come to Rwenzori Mountains National Park have become their long-time clients because they are impressed by what they deal in.

He called on government to improve the tourism sites in the district so that they attract many people to come and visit them and at the end leave money in the area for the residents to earn a living.
