The Chairperson of the Kasese District Women’s Council Ms. Angela Birungi has rallied all women of Kasese to endeavor to join at least one village savings and lending association-VSLA.
Ms. Birungi explains that joining a village savings and lending association inculcates a saving culture among women and in due course allows them to improve their financial literacy.
She explains that financial literacy is key in enabling women get themselves out of poverty.
The Women’s Council chairperson made the remarks over the weekend while delivering Shillings 500,000 from the Office of the Kasese Woman Member of Parliament elect Sarah Ithungu Baleke to the Ibanda-Kyanya NRM women’s league savings and credit society of Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council.
She tipped the group members to invest in different economic activities including buying and selling of coffee since Kasese is known as a hub of coffee production.
Joseline Tuhaise, the group chairperson and Joseline Mbambu secretary, applauded Sarah Ithungu Baleke for the financial support extended to their group, noting that they will use the money to develop themselves.
