BY ZALIMON BASIGHALHA (GOOD LUCK)

Annet Biira, a mother of one child who was the only woman who joined 17 men to compete in the 13 kilometer bicycle race that took place today morning in Kasese town, obtained the 12th position.

It took her 30 minutes and 52 seconds to finish the race that started from the Rwenzori Square via Kasese Roundabout, Nyakasanga, Mumbuzi, Acholi Quarters, Rukidi Road, Kogere Road, Kamaiba, Rwenzori International, Kiteso, Mbarara Road and back to the Rwenzori Square.

Speaking to Messiah Radio shortly after finishing the race, Biira explained that her participation was meant to inspire other women not to only focus on family matters but also promote their God – given talents for either health purposes or material gains.

Herbert Agaba, who won the race after taking 20 minutes and 14 seconds, called upon the youth in the Rwenzori Sub-region to embrace such activities and quickly attributed his success to his body fitness and training.

In his remarks, Mr. Morris Muhindo, the Chairperson for Kasese Municipal Sports Association, who was in-charge of overseeing the exercise, told the press that the bicycle race was among the ongoing activities of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival celebrations.

He appealed to the people in the district and Uganda at large to embrace bicycle racing in addition to other sports activities for their associated benefits.
