Local leaders in Kasese district have expressed concern over the increased cases of vandalism on water gravity flow schemes in the district.
Mr. Emmy Mbusa, the Local Council I Chairperson for Buhunga Cell in Bulembia Division, Kasese Municipality argues that the community members have tampered with the schemes in an attempt to have their individual taps at their respective homes.
Mbusa who was speaking during the official handover of Buhunga Gravity Flow water scheme in Kilembe Sub County to the communities for use, reveals that residents have erected an extra 11 tap stands on a flow scheme that was originally designed to accommodate only 12 tap-stands.
Mbusa explains that this tendency affects the volume of water that each tap stand delivers to the users.
The Kasese District Water Engineer, Mr. Patrick Syaipuma Ndungu explains that the related incidents have been witnessed in Kibirizi, Bugoye sub- County where more than 70 taps have been illegally connected outside the design.
The Kasese Principal Assistant Secretary (Assistant CAO), Mr. Kikusa Mustafa says that the district leadership has noted with concern such illegal activities on the government projects, adding that soon authorities will swing in action to apprehend the perpetrators.
Kikusa says that government is committed to equitably distributing safe water to all the communities but in phases.
