Thousands of Christians from the Anglican Diocese of South Rwenzori and Catholic Diocese of Kasese today joined the rest of the world to celebrate the Way of the Cross with a call of them to imitate the life and suffering of Christ.
The Way of the Cross is a traditional devotion in honour of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
For the Anglicans, the Way of the Cross started at St. Paul’s Cathedral with a service and later Christians moved in a devotional mood to Mt. Tabor where a healing and deliverance service was held.
Preaching to the congregation, Rev. William Muhindo Musisi, the South Rwenzori Director of Mission and Evangelism described the day as an important one in the lives of Christians since it reminds them of their sins that led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
He noted that if it was not Jesus Christ, mankind wouldn’t have been saved from sin.
For the Roman Catholics, the Way of the Cross started from Katadoba Trading Centre and ended at the Cathedral Parish where a mass was held.
During the mass, Rev. Fr. Job Syathamira, the Curate at Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral Parish challenged the believers in Christ to imitate his life and sufferings through denying themselves things that are associated with the world.
Fr. Syathamira stressed that Christians are supposed to shy away from sin including adultery, homosexuality and paganism among others.
