The Mountain Girl initiative a community based organization operating in Kasese District has today donated an assortment of food items to the people in the several internally displaced camps in Kyalhumba sub-county.
Last month, Kasese district witnessed landslides and floods that did not only claim the lives of some scores of people but also led to destruction of property including houses, crops and poultry among others.
Today morning, a delegation from Mountain Girl Initiative led by Ms. Sarah Ithungu Baleke offered the relief items including Cassava Flour and beans to the displaced persons.
She emphasised the need to support the internally displaced persons since most of the families have lost their crops after they were ravaged during either the floods or the landslides.
However, at the event of giving the food items, most people who are in the camps appealed to government to relocate them to safer places.
Mr. Sele Muhindo Bisya a resident of Kabingo explained that the situation in Kabingo IDP Camp is worsened by the fact that the place is hard to reach.
More than 45,000 people are currently encamped at more than 18 temporarily established camps after their houses were either permanently or partially destroyed by the May floods and landslides. ENDS
