The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime has noted that it was his prayer that UPDF and the Congolese Army completely demolish the remnants of the ADF rebels from the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo before the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.

On November 30, 2021, the Government of Uganda and her Congolese counterpart launched a military offensive codenamed, “Operation Shujja,” aimed at fighting against the ADF rebels in Kivu and Ituri Provinces respectively.

However, between June and November 2023, suspected ADF rebels terrorized some parts of Kasese district, leaving several people killed including two foreigners and a total of 37 students at Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Secondary School killed on June 16.

Speaking to the press yesterday at Movic Motel in Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council, Minister Kabbyanga stressed that despite the achievements of the ruling NRM government in Kasese district, it was his prayer that security clears all the ADF remnants that are still hiding in the jungles of DRC.

According to Kabbyanga, the insurgents in the neighbouring country also affect the development projects in Kasese district especially those located at the Mpondwe border.  He also stressed that the ADF rebels negative affect the tourism industry in Kasese yet the district is a tourism destination in Uganda.

The Junior Minister also noted that it was his wish that as government they fulfill a pledge of giving shillings 500 million to each Parish in Uganda under the Parish Development Model program before 2026.

Mary Maryline Kabugho Kighotha, a parliamentary hopeful for the Kasese District Woman Seat says it also her prayer that government solves the challenge of inadequate safe and clean drinking water in the district.
