A tutor of Agriculture at African Ark College of Management Sciences in Kasese town has commended church organizations and individuals for distributing cassava stem cuttings to the people in the district in a bid to address the challenge of food insecurity.
Mr. Edson Thembo says the district has continuously experienced a challenge of lack of enough cassava flour to cater for the ever increasing population. This, according to him has been forcing traders to ferry in cassava flour loaded on trucks.
He is therefore optimistic that the fast growing cassava stem cuttings donated to the farmers by some individuals and church organizations like South Rwenzori Diocese will go a long way to relieve the residents from depending on imported cassava flour.
Thembo sounded the remarks today afternoon while receiving a sack of cassava stem cuttings that was donated to the department of Agriculture at African Ark College of Management Sciences by Kithulha Care Initiative, a Community Based Organization operating in Kasese Municipality.
The sack of cassava stem cuttings was among the 100 that were today supplied to the residents of Nyakabingo II, Kamaiba and Railway Wards in the Central Division of Kasese Municipality.
Mr. Charles Mwanga Nzaghale, the Chief Executive Officer at Kithulha Care Initiative told the beneficiaries that the program was not politically motivated but aims at boosting food security among the residents.
Some of the local leaders from the benefiting areas including Isaac Kalyabyuma for Nyakabingo II, Julius Buhaka Binobino for Habitat- Kiteso and Geoffrey Sharif Masereka for Kidodo Cell applauded Kithulha Care Initiative for the donation.
Some beneficiaries hailed Kithulha Care Initiative for the donation .
