Teachers in the Anglican Church of Uganda founded schools in South Rwenzori Diocese, Kasese district have been urged to always nurture the learners holistically and morally upright in order for them to become responsible and reliable citizens.
The encouragement was sounded today by Ven. Charles Mbusa, the Sub-dean at St. Paul’s Cathedral while officiating at the official release of the 2024 Provincial Mock Examinations at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Kasese town.
At least 46 out of 135 Anglican founded Primary Schools and six secondary schools sat for the 2024 Provincial Mock Examinations in the entire Diocese.
In his remarks, Ven. Mbusa who represented the Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku, noted that the establishment of schools in the Diocese was to help the learners to attain good morals, discipline, academics and holistic development in a bid to have a bright future.
He also told the Head teachers to ensure that those schools top others in terms of academics.
While presenting the results to the Chief Guest and Head teachers, Rev. Alice Nabirye, the Coordinator for Education Uganda in South Rwenzori Diocese revealed that they were able to register 77 Grade Ones in all schools spread across the 14 Archdeaconries.
She mentioned Nyamwamba Archdeaconry as St. Paul’s Deanery as the leading ones. They were followed by Kisinga Archdeaconry.
The best performing schools were Trusted Care Junior School, Kamaiba, Nyamirami, Mirami, Busara and Kagando among others.
She, however, said the overall performance was still wanting in all subjects at both primary and secondary levels.
The Church Minister also observed the need for the school administrators to strengthen the debating clubs as a platform for the learners to acquire the skills of reading, speaking and interpreting the questions that appear in the examination papers.
In his remarks, the South Diocesan Director of Education, Rev. Asa Masereka Kiriaghe cautioned the teachers against the practice of malpractice in their respective institutions of learning, arguing that the act spoils the future of the learners.
He also tipped them to sensitize the parents about the need enroll their children in schools that are within their reach.
