South Rwenzori Diocesan Director of Education calls on school heads to embrace agriculture

The South Rwenzori Diocesan Director of Education, the Rev. Asa Masereka Kiriaghe has challenged heads of schools with big chunks of land to embrace agriculture as an alternative source of income to supplement the government donated funds.

Rev. Kiriaghe says agriculture helps the heads of schools to reduce some expenditures of buying food for staff lunch at their respective institutions.

He sounded the remarks today in his opening remarks to the Head teachers of the Church of Uganda Primary Schools and Chairpersons for the Management Committees who had come to St. Paul’s Cathedral in Kasese town for training on leadership.

According to him, once agriculture is taken on, sufficient food would be produced on the school land to cater for the teachers so that they conduct lessons comfortably. He also appealed to the parents to embrace the culture of packing food to their school going children so that they do not attend classes on empty stomachs.

He also reminded the Chairpersons of the School Management Committees and Head teachers to ensure that the learners are attended to as instructed by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

In his remarks, the Sub-dean at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Ven. Robert Ziwa who described education as an agent to the development of families and communities, hailed the Diocesan Education Department for such trainings, pledging to always spread educational messages to the entire Christians.
