Supporters of Ms Mary Marylyn Kabugho have started holding peaceful demonstrations disputing the election results from the recently concluded NRM primary elections meant to choose the flag bearer for the Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament.

On Thursday July 17, 2025, the party members went to the polls to select the fag bearer after three people had shown interest. They included Sarah Ithungu Baleke, Mary Marlyn Kabugho and Estery Happy.

While announcing the election results, the Kasese District NRM Registrar, Mr. Amon Mbusa declared Sarah Ithungu Baleke as the winner after obtaining 65,664 votes followed by Mary Marylyn Kabugho with 63,060 votes and Estery Happy with 1,256 votes.

However, today morning, Kabugho’s supporters who were disappointed with the Registrar’s pronouncement of the flag bearer stormed Kasese town with placards while singing and chanting, “Justice for Marylyn.” They were also heard agitating for a vote recount for the position of Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament.

Mr. Robert Ahimbisibwe commonly known as Big Boss who was among the protesters threatened not to participate in the forthcoming primary elections for the District Chairperson and Councillors should the party fail to address their grievances.

Mr. David Muhindo expressed fear saying should the NRM leadership fail to bring together the supporters of Sarah Ithungu Baleke and those of Mary Marylyn Kabugho, the seat for Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament is likely to fall into the hands of the opposition.

Ms Magret Kabugho, another protestor told the press that should the NRM leadership fail to harmonize the issue, they would influence Maryln Kabugho to participate in the General Elections as an independent candidate.
