Speaking during the official release of the 2024 PLE results for Kasese district, the Acting Principal District Inspector of Schools, Sylvester Baluku said that out of 12,755 registered candidates across the district, 695 passed in Div I translating to 5.5%, 7,620 passed in division two (60.6%), 2,810 in division three (22.3%), 1,008 in division four (8.0%) and 451 were ungraded (3.6%) while 171 were absent (1.3%).

According to Baluku, out of 695 candidates in Division One, 261 were obtained from schools in Bukonzo County West including 183 candidates from private owned while 78 candidates from government grant-aided primary schools.

Busongora County North came in the 2nd position with 214 candidates passed in Division I including 169 candidates from private owned while 45 candidates from government grant-aided primary schools.

And Bukonzo County East came in the 3rd position with 181 candidates passed in Division I including 106 from private owned and 75 candidates from government grant-aided primary schools while Busongora County South came in the 4th position with only 39 candidates passed in Division I including 26 candidates from private and only 13 candidates from government grant-aided primary schools.

However Baluku reported that even though Busongora County North came in the 2nd position with candidates with first grades, the same constituency has the highest number of worst performing primary schools in the 2024 PLE results. He also named some of the worst performing schools in the district.

He also noted an overall improvement in the performance of the district in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations.

In his remarks, the Kasese District Education Officer, Mr. Ernest Bwambale Thabugha singled out absenteeism and late reporting by the teachers on duty as the major cause of poor performance in many government-aided primary schools.

The Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt Joe Walusimbi vowed to intensify his monitoring and supervision exercise on government schools in order to realize good academic performances.
