Residents of Bigando village in KitswambaSub- County, Busongora County North in Kasese district have threatened not to participate in the 2026 General Elections should the government delay to erect an electric wire fence along the Kibale and Queen Elizabeth National Parks to prevent wild animals from straying into the people’s gardens.

The residents especially farmers allege that within this week, they have been counting losses to stray elephants that evade their crop gardens.

They also claim that in addition to losing their crops to the wild animals, some of residents have been losing their lives after being attacked by the wild animals as they try to chase them away from their crop gardens.

The angry residents alleged that despite being attacked by the wild animals, none of the officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has bothered to come to the area to sympathize with them and present to their issues to the higher authorities for redress, threatening not to vote leaders that are not allegedly minding about them.

Recently, the Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, Florence Kabugho while addressing the residents of Kahendero Fish Landing Site in Busongora County South and Kayanja Fish Landing Site in Bukonzo County West observed that cases of human – conflicts were on an increase.

Kabugho revealed that she was compiling a report about the challenge so that she presents it to the relevant authorities for redress.

Efforts to get a comment from UWA was futile by press time.
