Residents in Kasese called upon to increase tourism

The Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Martin Mugara accompanied by the Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime and Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Kyofatogabye Kabuye, on Saturday officially opened a multi-billion Elite Peak Hotel, with a call to residents of Kasese to increase their tourism menu.

The facility, which is located in Mpondwe town along Kasese-Mpondwe Highway, belongs to Hajji Latif Baluku.

Mr. Zedekia Kambasu Kayiri one of the managers at the hotel indicated that the facility was developed with an intention to provide first class accommodation and a modern health club to retain tourists at the border.

Kayiri quickly requested the Minister of State for Tourism to kindly help them fast track the accreditation process of the new hotel.

In his remarks, the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Mr Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime, emphasised the need for Kasese to continue positioning itself as a tourism district with a variety of products its tourism menu.

The Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Martin Mugara, who was the Chief Guest, promised to lobby Uganda Tourism Board-UTB to ensure that at least Elite Peak Hotel is expeditiously accredited.

He, however, highlighted the need for the community to remain vigilant and work with the security forces to flush out the rebel Allied Democratic Forces-ADF since insecurity is an enemy to tourism.
