Residents of Kanyangeya Main Cell in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality are currently living in fear following allegations of continued invasion of wild animals from the Queen Elizabeth National Park into the community.
The residents argue that they have continued witnessing animals which escape from the protected area into their community.
Mrs. Zainab Muhindo, an 80-year -old woman and resident in the area says the invasion of the wild animals has kept her in fear that they might attack her homestead.
According to her, over the weekend, they allegedly witnessed over six lions into the community land, something that put their lives at stake since they had left their children at their respective homes.
Laban Kiiza, another concerned resident in the area says that they want the government to expedite the process of erecting an electric wire fence along the park boundaries in order to curtail the animals from crossingfurther.
The Kanyangeya Main Cell General Secretary, James Muthahinga confirmed the incident to Mesiah Radio yesterday and said they had been notified by the UWARanger to inform other residents to be vigilant about the lions were sighted in the area last week.
Muthahinga, called upon the community members to stop carrying out illegal activities near the park in order to avoid being affected by the wild animals.
However, an effort to get a comment from UWA was futile by press time.
