The Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County has encouraged the religious and opinion leaders to work closely with the political leaders to sensitize the masses about the need to utilize the mosquito nets that government has given out to Kasese District Local Government.

Last week, government donated over 508,880 insecticide treated mosquito nets to Kasese District Local Government to be distributed to over 1.1 million people across the district in an attempt to prevent the spread of malaria.

While addressing journalists today morning at his office in Kasese town, Mr. Zepher Mubingwa who also doubles as the Chairperson for the Mosquito Distribution Taskforce, observed need for the religious and opinion leaders to support the local leaders through encouraging the people to willingly embrace the programme using their pulpits.

The acting Kasese District Health Officer, Mr. Stephen Bagonza, appealed to the people to make proper use of the mosquito nets, adding that Kasese is among the districts that register high cases of malaria.

According to him, Kasese is rated at 40% when it comes to cases related to malaria.

The Kasese District Vector Control Officer, Mr. Noah Tibamwenda said that according to the official distribution programme, tomorrow the VHTs will embark on registering the people from house to house across the entire district ahead of the normal distribution slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.
