Rwenzori East Regional Police have warned that they will not allow any people to operate fireworks as they usher in the New Year next week unless they are accredited by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Rwenzori East Regional Community Liaisons Officer, SP Luke Mbusa says companies that intend to use fireworks to usher in the New Year should engage police so that the security agency guides them on how best to secure the permit from the Inspector General of Police.
SP Mbusa explains that the use of fireworks is regulated because it has potential to not only incite violence but also cause panic in the population.
He also cautioned the people of Kasese against the burning of car tyres and other objects along the roads on New Year’s Eve explaining that they have potential to cause road accidents. He calls for calmness especially as people enjoy the festivities. ENDS
