Police releases Nyamwamba Division Councilor on bond

Mr. Leonard Kasereka, the Nyamwamba Division Councilor representing Kisanga Ward who has been wanted by police on charges of malicious damage and theft of a copy of the NRM members’ register today morning surrendered himself to Kasese Central Police Station.

SP Luka Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Community Liaisons Officer, who also doubles as the acting Regional Spokesperson, confirmed the incident to the press and said that after recording statements; Mr. Kasereka was later released on police bond.

It is alleged that on March 17, 2024 while at the District NRM offices in Kasese town, Kasereka was given a copy of the register to deliver it to the Village Registrar of Kisanga A Cell, Mr. Wilson Mbusa.

Before handing it to the responsible person, Kasereka was called back to the NRM offices where he was told to hand the register back to the authorities who then discovered that the first three papers had been plucked.

This prompted the District Registrar, Mr. Amon Mbusa to report a case of malicious damage and theft to police where it was successfully entered in the police register vide Ref: CRB206/2024.

 According to the acting Regional Police Mouthpiece, after realizing that he was being hunted by police, Kasereka surrendered himself at around 9:00am.
