The police in Kasese district have revealed that they are overwhelmed by the increased cases of mob justice among the communities.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime says that within a period of two and a half months, they have registered about four cases who have been killed by their fellows with the most recent incident being a one Kenny who was found bleeding yesterday morning and died moments later.
According to him, their preliminary findings indicate that the victim allegedly attempted to disconnect a solar panel from one of the buildings in the area, forcing any angry mob to injure him.
Speaking to the press today morning at Kasese Central Police Station, SP Tumushime called upon the different stakeholders including religious, cultural and political leaders to interest themselves in finding out the factors that influence a section of people to end the lives of their colleagues.
He cautioned the members of the public to desist from killing the people that they suspect to have committed crimes and advised them to instead report to the relevant authorities for investigations and legal punishments.
SP Tumushime explained that killing a suspect doesn’t only offend the law and violate human rights but also compromises investigations aimed at ascertaining facts that would lead to dispensing justice.
