Kasese District leadership has directed all the people residing in the land belonging to the District Multipurpose hall to vacate so that the Local Government puts in place reliable security personnel to man the area.
The directive follows numerous incidents where the multipurpose building, electricity, fence, furniture and metallic poles on which flags fly were stolen by yet unknown people.
Mr. Johnson Mayora, the District Speaker while chairing yesterday’s council sitting that was aimed at approving the 2024/2025 Financial Year Budget noted that there was no reason why the people should keep on the land even when the property of government is being vandalized in their presence.
Mayora explained that the rate at which the government’s building and other property have been vandalized becomes challenging to the District leadership to identify the suspects and the motive behind the continued incidents even where the area has occupants.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Elias Byamungu conquered with the Speaker’s suggestion, noting that the occupants should leave with immediate effect.
According to him, they had earlier planned to renovate the multipurpose building at a tune of more than shillings 100 million but their efforts have been frustrate by vandalism of more property by yet unknown people.
However, the District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi told the councilors that the issue of lack of security was not only at the multipurpose building but also at the entire district headquarters.
He pledged that he would work with the District Security Committee to have the district multipurpose premises secured and occupied by the armed personnel.
