Parents lose hope of recovering their children abducted by the ADF from Kasese

BY OBED KULE KITHENDE

Parents of children who were allegedly abducted by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels during their attack on Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Secondary in Kasese district have reported fading hopes in recovering their young ones.

On June 16, 2023, ADF rebels attacked Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Secondary School in Nyabugando Ward and killed over 40 people including students and abducting others. Since then, the abducted students have never been recovered.

Their parents now want government to support them financially so that they can organize for mass prayers at their respective homes.

Mr. Stephen Bwambale from Nyabugando II cell and a father to Festo Muhindo Siryako, aged 22 who was in senior three by the time of the incident, said the only option was for government to facilitate them to make memorial services.

Mr. Safatia Kule, a resident of Kawempe – Kikyo in Ihandiro sub-county and father to Morris Kule, revealed that they had hope in their abducted children, a reason why they put them in schools. According to him, now that they were abducted by the ADF rebels, the parents still need psychosocial support.

They sounded the remarks today afternoon while receiving 10 tailoring machines from Bishop Moses Okum of the Pentecostal Church in Kasese during a function that was held at Kinyamaseke Town Council offices.

Mr. Sanasio Mupasula, the Chairperson of the Parents whose children were attacked by the rebels explained that after the incident, they formed an association with aim of sharing ideas on how to overcome the challenges associated with the scenario.

Mr. Ernest Kyamakya, the Kinyamaseke Town Council Chairperson, who hailed Bishop Okum for the donation, sympathized with the affected parents, asking them to work as a team and collaborate with the leaders so that they link them to government and benefit from her programs.

On his part, Bishop Moses Okum, who delivered the donation that was procured with support from Here is Life Africa, said it was meant to restore hope among parents through economic empowerment.
