Parents in Kasese district have been reminded of their joint efforts towards nurturing their children.
The reminder was sounded yesterday by Ruth Labong, the Community Development Officer for Maliba Sub- County while addressing a section of community members who had attended a debate that had been organized by Justice Livelihoods Health at St. John’s Karemabe Church of Uganda in Nyabisusi Parish, Maliba Archdeaconry.
The debate was organized to sensitise the public about the need to give girls and women on their parents’ property.
Ms Labong explained that when the children are brought up by both the father and mother, they become peace loving citizens and advocate for a violence free community.
The Community Development Officer revealed that the community would be peaceful and realize development if the parents embraced the idea of sensitizing their children about the dangers of domestic violence.
Jackie Akong,aGender Trainer at Justice Livelihoods Health observed the need for all stakeholders including religious, cultural and political leaders to preach against domestic violence using their various platforms.
At the debate, a section of women including Mrs. Harriet Nyama and Anastazia Kathungu suggested that both the girls and women should be treated equally with men while sharing the parents’ property.
However, Mr. Eria Bwambale and Wilson Bahati Isebahasa opposed the suggestions.
