Five people from Kyarukara cell in Katwe – Kabatooro Town, Kasese district are nursing injuries that they sustained last evening following a heavy down pour and strong winds that befell the area.
The victims have been identified as Mericelina Kahindo aged 70, Job Isingoma and Sizella Nyakato, both aged 02, Vinelanda Katusabe, 02 and Mr. Ernest Bulemu, a 47- year old resident in the area.
Mr. Bulemu, who sustained a minor injury, told Messiah Radio that her daughter Vinelanda Katusabe’s leg was broken by the falling bricks emanating from a collapsing house and was immediately rushed to Bwera Government General Hospital for treatment.
For Kahindo, who is among the victims, sustained an injury on the head and her house was too destroyed. She is now homeless and asks the leaders to come to her rescue.
Iryn Kiiza, the Secretary for Katwe Salt Miners’ SACCO also told the press that their offices were destroyed, hence leading to loss of the organization’s documents.
