A section of opposition politicians in Kasese district says it is still longing to witness a Head of State who would hand over the tools of power to his successor in a peaceful manner.
The opposition politicians including Mr. Misairi Thembo Kahungu, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) says ever since Uganda obtained independence in 1962, there has never been any president who willingly hands over the tools of power to his successor.
Now, Mr. Kahungu says he is still longing to see a President who peacefully hands over power to another person and goes home to play an advisory role to his successor.
Mr. Ronald Ndyakurungi, the District Councilor representing Kyarumba Town Council on the FDC ticket, says he still believes in the UPC government of 1980 to 1985 which according to him had a vision for developing Uganda.
He argues that the UPC government contributed much to the development of the country through the establishment of cooperatives and other projects.
However, Mr. Adam Bwambale, the District Councilor representing the Central Division in Kasese Municipality and a member of the ruling NRM party says since the attainment of power, the country continues registering progress in terms of development.
He mentions security, free education for all, improved infrastructure, healthcare services and socio-economic transformation among others.
Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament, Ferigo Kambale stresses that the ruling NRM party has significantly challenged all the past regimes following its agenda and manifesto.
Singling on Obote’s regime, Kambale says cultural institutions were abolished and only reinstated by the current regime.
