One drowns in Kasese

Residents of Kigando Cell in Mubuku Town Council, Kasese district today morning woke up in shock after they discovered one of their own having drowned in a water canal belonging to Kasese Cobalt Company Limited (KCCL).

A Canal is an artificial waterway or an engineered channel built for drainage management like flood control and irrigation.

The Town Council Chairperson, Mr. Joseph Nyamutale has identified the deceased as Koroneri Kibaya, a 50 year – old resident in the area.

Nyamutale suspects Kibaya could have met his fate as he was trying to cross a temporarily bridge erected across the canal has night.

According to him, cases of residents drowning in the said canal have been rampant.  This year alone, Kibaya becomes the second person to drown in the water canal.

The Town Council Boss has since vowed to call for a stakeholders’ meeting so that together they come with a lasting solution to the problem.

Mr. Sedrack Mubughe, our Radio Agent in the area said it took the intervention of residents, political leaders and police to retrieve the deceased’s body from the water canal.

By press time, police had transported the body to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
