Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, Fairventures worldwide, People and Nature Rwenzori Rally Community to Plant Trees for Climate Resilience

Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Ministers  together with Fairventures worldwide have re-echoed the need for the subjects who have not yet embraced the idea of planting trees on the bear hills and valleys to positively respond to the call as an alternative of mitigating the effects of climate change in the Rwenzori Sub region.

During a project monitoring tour at the Buhikira Royal Hill in Kasese town on Thursday with People and Nature Rwenzori and Fairventures Worldwide, the Minister of Culture Aganatiya Katya and Minister of Lands and Agriculture Naume Mbambu emphasized the significance of this initiative.

The ministers including Aganatiya Katya for Culture and Naume Mbambu for Lands and Agriculture sounded the remarks today afternoon while meeting some of the cultural institution’s Development Partners on Climate Change Programs from People and Nature Rwenzori and Fair Ventures Worldwide at the Buhikira Royal Hill in Kasese town.

Hon. Katya who represented the Prime Minister at the meeting hailed the partners for planting trees on a number of hills including the Buhikira Royal Hill and Rwesororo Hill in Kisinga Sub-county .

Hon. Mbambu expressed her gratitude with the current interventions currently at the hill and requested for continued collaboration. 

Jackson Mumbere, Programs Director at People and Nature Rwenzori Mountains, disclosed that the tree planting initiative across all hills owned by Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu in Kasese district commenced in 2019 and is set to continue until 2030.

He noted that over 60,000 trees have already been planted at the Buhikira Royal Hill.

James Thembo, Head of Field Operations at Fairventures Worldwide, reported positive progress regarding the greening of the Royal hill and called upon other hill owners to approach Fairventures to benefit from their tree planting projects.  END
