Nyakabingo & Kitabu sub -counties lack access to safe water

BY JOACKIM KULE MUHESI

Kitabu and Nyakabingo sub- counties have been singled out as the leading lower local governments in Kasese district that are water stressed.

The two sub-counties have a total water coverage ranging from 56% and 63%.

However, the entire district’s access to safe and clean drinking water currently stands 57%. Before the floods destroyed some of the water sources, Kasese was rated at 67% in terms of water coverage.

The District Senior Water Engineer, Mr. Patrick Syaipuma Ndungu regrets that the people living in Kitabu and Nyakabingo sub-counties are still depending on contaminated water as revealed by the Water Quality Analysis.

He, however, assures the affected residents that government is devising means to have safe and clean drinking water extended to the communities in the two sub-counties in the near future.

He is optimistic that Nyamughasana Water Project which currently under construction will benefit the people of Kitabu and other sub-counties in Bukonzo County East and Busongora County South.
