The National Resistance Movement Party Electoral Commission has directed the Kasese NRM leadership to halt the exercise of repeating the primary elections for the position of Local Council III Chairperson for Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality.

The intervention of the National NRM Electoral Commission follows a decision by the district party Electoral Commission to postpone announcing the flag bearer, arguing that the declaration forms at Kogere polling station were allegedly not duly signed by the candidates’ agents.

On Monday this week, the Kasese District NRM Executive Committee held a meeting and resolved to repeat the voting exercise tomorrow Friday 22 at Kogere polling station.

Today in the morning hours, the NRM party National Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, directed the Kasese district party leadership to halt the exercise, arguing that he had not okayed it to be conducted.

The Kasese District NRM Administrative Secretary, Mr. Robert Mitse confirmed having received a directive, warning them against conducting the elections without the authorization of the party National Electoral Commission boss.

According to Mitse, Dr. Tango argued that he was still waiting for the District Registrar to give him a report of what happened during the day and time of election.

Despite this directive, some of the candidates including Brian Kauntura and Said Thembo Kasiba had vowed not to participate again in the said election.

Earlier before the directive, Mr. Pimako Kasereka, one of the candidates had told the press that he was ready for the exercise tomorrow.
