A surge in the number of young expectant mothers attending antennal care at Munkunyu Health Centre II in Munkunyu sub-county, Kasese district has worried the authorities.
Ms Jackline Tibasima, the in-charge at the health facility says from November last year to date, at least 26 girls below the age of 18 have been received at the facility seeking antenatal care services.
She sounded the remarks today while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview at the health centre.
According to her, despite the interventions of a number of stakeholders including Civil Society Organizations, early pregnancies still remain a challenge facing many communities in Munkunyu Sub-county.
She appeals to the leaders at all levels to embark on sensitization in an attempt to combat the vice from the communities.
By the time of filing this story, efforts to reach the Sub-county Community Development Officer were futile as his known cell telephone number was not readily available.
