BY JOACKIM KULE

Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment will tomorrow officially handover all projects that it has been implementing in River Nyamwamba Water Catchment Area to Kasese Municipal Council and Kasese District Local Government.

The projects including tree planting and construction of gabions among others which have been implemented at a tune of shillings over 12 billion are aimed at restoring nature and controlling floods from straying into the communities.

Mr. Augustine Kooli, the Kasese District Senior Environment Officer told the press today morning at Boma Grounds in Kasese town during a function in which the District was flagging off the activities of the Albertine Regional Water and Environment Week that after the official handover of the projects, Kasese Municipal Council and Kasese District Local Government are supposed to ensure their sustainability.

Mr. Kooli said he was happy that the trees were doing well despite being by destroyed by animals and affected by other human activities.

Mr. Girivazio Monday Bwambale, the Kasese District Secretary for Social Services, however, observed need for more trees to be planted in order to restore the vegetation cover that he said has been affected by human activities, hence leading to reoccurrence of floods.

Ms Catherine Mbambu, the Principal Assistant Secretary in the office of the Chief Administrative Officer, called on the residents to own the planted trees for their growth and restoration of nature.
