Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities launches a multi-billion project in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park

The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has contracted Muhindo John and Friends Ltd to construct boardwalks in the Rwenzori National Park at a tune of shillings 10.7 billion.

The multi-billion project which will run from April 2024 to June 2025 was officially handed over to the contractor yesterday at Mihunga Main Gateway to the Rwenzoris in Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council, Kasese district by Mr. Samuel Kakula Kirome, the Ministry’s Under Secretary who represented the Permanent Secretary.

Mr. Kakula, who congratulated the contractor for winning the contract, however, called for quality work as expected by the Ministry as well as Central Government.

According to him, government decided to inject such amount of money as a way of attracting the tourists to come in big numbers for the benefit of the local community and the country. Kakula appealed to the contractor to give a priority to the local youth when it comes to employing workers.

Mr. Bernard Masereka, the Chief Executive Officer at Muhindo John and Friends Ltd pledged to do quality work as instructed by the Ministry.

He revealed that during the project implement, they would employ about 4,000 workers from within Kasese district who are willing to work and those who have the required qualifications.

In his remarks, the Kasese District Chairperson appreciated government for selecting the Rwenzori Mountains National Park to benefit from the project and subsequently cautioned the contractor against doing shoddy work.

Lt. Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese RDC assured the Ministry that he would supervise the project so that value for government’s money is realized.
