Minister Kabbyanga worried of the low turn up of voters during National Voters’ Register

The Minister of State in-charge of National Guidance, Hon. Godfery Baluku Kabbyanga has observed that the ongoing exercise of updating the National Voters’ Register has been characterized by a low turn- up of members due to lack of enough sensitization.

The Electoral Commission on Monday started the exercise in preparation for the 2025- 2026 General Elections.

The 20- day exercise is being conducted at the update stations in each parish throughout the country every day, including weekends.

According to the program, the exercise will see eligible citizens registered while registered voters wishing to transfer to new voting locations will be able to apply for such transfers and the registration details of the voters will be confirmed, among other activities.

Today, Hon. Kabbyanga officially transferred his particulars from the voters’ register of of Namhuga South in Bulembia Division, Kasese Municipality to Rusese A Cell in Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council.

While at the update station at the Town Council headquarters in Kaserengethe Cell , Minister Kabbyanga observed that the turn-up of people embracing the exercise was low, appealing to the general public to massively support the exercise so that they are enabled to participate in the 2026 General elections.

Asked if the register would not be infiltrated by the foreigners especially people from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, Minister Kabbyanga explained that they would only allow a person with a Ugandan National ID to be registered by the Election Officials.
