The Minister of State in-charge of National Guidance has asked the leadership of Uganda Development Bank (UDB) to interest itself in supporting the tourism sector in Kasese district.
Hon. Godfrey Baluku says Kasese is known for its unique features and sites including the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Hot springs among others that have annually attracted many people from across the globe for the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon and Rwenzori Theluji Festival.
Speaking during the Banks Annual Press Conference that was held at Bwera School of Nursing and Midwifery in Mpondwe –Lhubiriha Town Council, Minister Kabbyanga said it would be good for Uganda Development Bank to give loans to the people whose vision is to invest in tourism and other related businesses.
The Minister, who also asked the Bank to sensitize the public about financial literacy for their good performance, observed that most entrepreneurs in Kasese were being exploited by money lenders.
Mr. Allan Joshua Mwesigwa, the Director in-charge of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at Uganda Development Bank, who revealed that the financial institution was ranked the first in East Africa under the Africa Bank Award for the year 2024, noted that they had started funding enterprises in Kasese district with Bwera School of Nursing and Midwifery among the beneficiaries. Dr. Francis Mulekya, the Managing Directors at Bwera School of Nursing and Midwifery testified that they benefited from the Bank and asked the community members to embrace its services for their development.
