The Office of the President of the Republic of Uganda under the department of Chancery has appealed to the leaders in the Rwenzori region to sensitize the population about the procedures used to identify the people who qualify to benefit from the national honors and awards.
The national honors and awards are conferred in respect of recognizing people who have made meritorious contributions to the national interests of the country’s peace, security and cultural promotions among others.
The awards are in form of orders, medals and decorations which are given to individuals after proposals of honor and awards from ministries, agencies of government, nongovernmental organizations and corporate organizations which are submitted in the field d of civil and military sector, academic, culture, media, religion, sports and industry among others to the chancery which is a permanent custodian and administrator of Uganda’s National Awards.
While facilitating at the popularization and sensitization meeting of the program to Kasese district leaders yesterday, Ms Hajat ZaminahMalole, the Chancellor and Secretary for the Presidential Awards Committee implored them to make sure that the local population understands the steps taken for one to benefit from the programme.
Kasese District Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Eriab Ntarwete Begumya said that they would disseminate the information to the populace so that they understand the importance and benefits associated with being recognized nationally.
The Kasese District Vice Chairperson, Mr. Jerevesious Monday Bwambale, applauded the office of the president for the initiative, adding the awards act as motivators to the people to develop the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice.
