Landlords with pieces of land in Kasese Industrial and Business Park given up to June to have developed their plots

The Kasese Municipality Mayor has revealed that they will soon force the landlords with unutilized plots of land in Kasese Industrial and Business Park to surrender them to the potential investors.

On June 05, 2021 President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officiated at the ground breaking of Kasese Industrial and Business Park and revealed that Metu Africa Bus Industries would begin assembling buses from the area.

The President said the proposed automobile manufacturing project in Kasese would create a new form of wealth and a better future for Uganda.

The multi-billion project was also meant to promote agro-industrialization in the Rwenzori sub-region. However, since its launch, a slight progress is seen at the site.

Speaking to our reporter yesterday at his office in Kasese town, Mr. Chance Kahindo, the Municipality Mayor said they had given an ultimatum of up to June, this year for the landlords to have developed their plots of land.

According to him, failure by the landlords to comply within the stipulated period of time, they would be forced to give them to potential investors for development.

The Mayor stressed that in December last year, a delegation from the Uganda Investments Authority visited the park and assured the leadership of the urban centre that it would be worked on as soon as possible.

He, however, revealed that the delegation tasked them to work on the Drainage Master Plan, Water and Sewerage System and the Electricity Power Line within the park.

In 2018, the Government of Uganda released shillings 10 billion to develop Kasese and Kabarole Industrial and Business Parks in order to promote agro-industrialization. However, Kasese received shillings 04 billion for the construction of roads, power extension and water connection in the park that is located in Kahokya Cell of the Central Division in Kasese Municipality.
