Kitswamba Sub-County approves budget estimates for FY 2023-24

Kitswamba Sub-county in Busongora County North, Kasese district will in the forthcoming financial year 2023/2024 operate on a budget estimates worth shillings over 125 million.

The above amount of money was approved by the Sub-county Council sitting on Friday at the sub-county headquarters.

While moving a motion seeking council to approve the budget estimates, Sharon Asiimwe, the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration indicated an increase of over shillings 20 million to compared to the ending financial year budget of 2022/2023 which is shillings 93 million.

She explained that the shillings 125 million for the forthcoming financial year would be sourced from the Local Revenue Collections, Discretionary Development Equalization Grant (DDEG), Uganda Wildlife Authority, Honoraria, Non Wage and the Road funds from the district among others.

Mr. Julius Thembo, the Sub County Cashier observed need for the local leaders to sensitize the community members about the need to pay taxes as a way of mobilizing local revenue to enable the lower local government meet her budget. Mr. Yofesi Katenene, the sub county chairperson told the press that among other projects to be implemented, roads would be given a priority to pay way for the easy transportation of agricultural goods to the market centers.

    That budget sounds too little to make an impact, I urge the administration of the district to devise means of raising funds off the traditional means
