BY JOACKIM KULE

The Chief Executive Officer for Kilembe Investments Limited, a renowned power distribution company in Western Uganda has revealed that it is only through industrialization that the citizens can be enabled to consume the already generated power in the country.

Uganda’s National Power Generation Capacity as of December 2023 was approximately 1,350 megawatts, with maximum demand of only 988 megawatts of which 868 megawatts were a national consumption and 120 megawatts were the export demand.

As per the 2023 Energy Policy, Uganda’s goal is to increase the power generation capacity to 52,000 megawatts by 2040.

Now, Ms Jane Masika Birungi, the Chief Executive Officer for Kilembe Investments Limited says industrialization which is the process of transforming the economy of a nation or region from a focus on agriculture to a reliance on manufacturing would be the only way to influence the people to use the power.

She also revealed that as Kilembe Investments Limited, they are planning to increase the power that they generate by introducing a solar system that is durable for 30 years to supply to some areas that are not yet connected to hydroelectricity power.

According to her, some parts of Mahango sub- County in Bukonzo County East have so far been surveyed to benefit from the new project that is in the pipeline.
