Katwe -Kabatooro Town Council in Busongora County South, Kasese district is currently operating on a budget of shillings 1.9 billion from the shillings 2.4 billion for the previous 2022/2023 financial year.
This indicates a decline of shillings 500 million, according to Mr. Esau Murongo, the area Town Clerk.
Mr. Murongo made the revelation on Monday while reporting to the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County who had gone to the area to monitor government programs that are being implemented in the urban centre.
The Town Clerk explained that the shillings 500 million decline in their budget was caused by the floods that hit the salt Lake which is the main source of revenue for Katwe- Kabatooro Town Council.
According to him, even the 2022/2023 financial year budget was not realized due to the challenge. Following the incident, they only managed realize 42% in terms of performance.
Mr. John Bosco Kananura, the L. C III Chairperson for Katwe – Kabatooro Town Council explained that some of the capital projects that would be implemented in the last financial year budget have been transferred to the current financial year budget.
Some of the projects transferred include the construction of an administration block at a tune of shillings 1.3 billion but in a phased manner. Responding to the reports presented to him by the two leaders, Mr. Mubingwa advised them to look for alternative ways of helping the people through diversifying their economic activities in a bid to enhance their revenue base.
