A section of youth in Kasese district who participated in the recently concluded Mt. Rwenzori Marathon has observed need for the district leadership to facilitate their trainings so that they gain more skills to enable them compete favorably with the international runners.
Eva Masika, a resident of Base camp Lower Cell in the Central Division who participated in a 42 kilometer run and obtained the 9th position, says they still lack enough training to enable them challenge their fellow runners from other districts and countries.
According to Masika, her intention is to become an international runner and make it her usual business to help her eradicate poverty from her family.
Mr. Godfrey Sunday, the Vice Patron for Kasese Municipal Sports Association, says with support from Kithulha Care Initiative, they were able to train 21 athletes who participated in the third edition of the Mt. Rwenzori Marathon.
He, however, appeals to the leaders and other well-wishers to always come onboard and assist them to procure some sports wears and other equipment that they are still lacking.
They sounded the appeal last evening while meeting Mr. Francis Mugisa Kithulha, one of the Sponsors and Patron of Kasese Municipal Sports Association during an evaluation session that was held at Uhuru 50 Gardens in Kasese town.
In his remarks, Mr. Kithulha, who hailed the 21 runners from Kasese Municipality for their participation and discipline that they portrayed, encouraged them never to lose hope but instead aim higher for the next year’s edition.
He also used the same platform to call upon the residents of Kasese Municipality to engage themselves in the production of goods and services in order to enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.
According to him, during the recent marathon, a larger population in Kasese town earned money because their lodges and hotels were full being capacity.
